CONSTITUTION OF THE OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS

Article I          NAME

            The name of this organization shall be the Oklahoma State University Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, hereafter referred to as OSU AIChE.

Article II         OBJECTIVES

            The objective of this chapter shall be

(1) to promote the professional development of its membership by its programs and by its relations with other student chapters and with the parent body, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers,

(2) to maintain a relationship between Chemical Engineering students and faculty at Oklahoma State University, and

(3) to contribute to the development of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University through activities involving the faculty and all students.

Article III       MEMBERSHIP

            Members must be enrolled as a full-time student in an engineering or scientific course of study at Oklahoma State University which qualifies him/her to contribute to the development of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University.  Members shall have the exclusive privileges of voting on amendments to this Constitution and of nominating and voting for offices and holding office.

Article IV       OFFICERS 

            The officers of the Student Chapter shall meet the qualifications of organization officers as set by Oklahoma State University.  The following shall serve for one academic year:  President, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Activities Coordinator, Chemkidz Director, Newsletter Editor, Webmaster/Historian, CEAT Student Council Representative, and up to two liaisons from each of the following classes:  Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior.

Article V         ELECTION OF OFFICERS

            Election for the following academic year of the officers listed in Article IV shall take place in the spring semester of each academic year.  Self-nominations and nominations from the floor will be accepted at the election meeting.  To be eligible for nomination a candidate must be a current member of the organization.  All elections shall proceed by secret ballot.  The candidate who secures a majority or plurality of votes wins the position.

Article VI       FACULTY ADVISOR

            A faculty member of the School of Chemical Engineering shall be recommended by the Executive Committee to the head of the School of Chemical Engineering as faculty advisor for the Chapter.  The Executive Committee shall recommend a faculty member in the spring of each school year to serve the following year.  The faculty member shall meet the requirements set by Oklahoma State University and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Article VII      SUCCESSION

            If the office of President shall become vacated during the academic year, it shall be filled by the First Vice-President.  If there is no First Vice-President, the office of President shall be filled by the first available officer according to the following order:  Second Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Engineering Student Council Representative.  The resulting empty office shall be filled by special election.

Article VII      AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

            Amendments to the Constitution may be proposed by any member of the Chapter.  Adoption of the amendment shall be by three-fourths vote of all members, pending approval by the Student Senate.

BY-LAWS 

Article I          PROCEDURE

The conduct of each meeting will be according to Roberts’ Rules of Order except when in conflict with the Constitution or By-Laws, in which case the Constitution or By-Laws will take precedence.

Article II         DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS

President:

a.          Plan meetings of the chapter

b.         Preside at all meetings of the chapter

c.          Serve as custodian of the Constitution, and maintain a copy accessible for examination

d.         Provide file copies of the Constitution for the Secretary of AIChE, the school of Chemical Engineering, and Campus Life at Oklahoma State University

e.          Serve as a liaison between OSU AIChE, OSU and other organizations on and off campus

First Vice-President:

a.          Preside at meetings in the absence of the President

b.         Research, select and invite potential speakers to address AIChE, and to a lesser extent CEAT at large

c.     Organize all logistical considerations for each meeting

Second Vice-President:

a.        Organize all logistical considerations for National and Regional Conferences

b.       Facilitate procurement of transportation (flights or vans) and accommodation (hotel rooms)

c.        Serve as a liaison between OSU AIChE and the national or regional conference organizers

Secretary:

a.     Organize new member registration

b.     Register members for national membership

c.     Keep records of members attending AIChE events

d.    Manage the email account, including adding new members and sending out reminders and announcements

e.     Prepare a final report of chapter activities to the national organization

f.     Assist ADVISOR in completing application for national Outstanding Student Chapter award

Treasurer:

a.     Balance account information to align with Whitehurst data

b.     Receive and handle all money paid into the organization

c.     Apply for AFAP and any other available Group 1 funding

d.    Prudently budget for the next year

e.     Apply for necessary Rainy Day funds from CEAT Stuco

f.     Reimburse members of AIChE for approved expenses pertaining to the organization

g.     Pay bills incurred within the year to various food and service providers, including travel and accommodations

AIChE Activities Coordinator:

a.     Plan and organize AIChE events

b.     Contact necessary individuals or organizations to obtain resources needed for AIChE events

c.     Obtain assistance from other members of the organization in this process when necessary, in particular when it is necessary to physically acquire needed materials or food, for example

Chemkidz Director:

a.     Plan and schedule visits to schools where a engineering/science demonstration will be held

b.     Plan topics to be discussed at the demonstrations as well as procure necessary materials

c.     Encourage audience at demonstrations to explore science and engineering further 

Newsletter Editor:

a.          Solicit articles to be included in the OSU AIChE Newsletter, Equilibrium

b.         Arrange for publication of AIChE Newsletter

c.          Arrange for distribution of newsletters to classes

Webmaster/Historian:

a.          Maintain the OSU AIChE website.

b.         Update content of website.

CEAT Student Council Representative:

a.          Represent the Chapter at Engineering Student Council meetings

b.         Report Engineering Student Council Activities to Chapter

Liaisons:

a.          Report AIChE and executive meeting activities to their class

b.         Organize announcements outside of department office and on the first floor of Engineering North

Article III       DUES

            Annual dues for local membership of the Chapter will be determined at the first executive meeting upon recommendation of the Treasurer and be payable at the office of the Department of Chemical Engineering.
